The Internal Tooth Whitening Procedure

Internal tooth whitening is a simple procedure that starts by checking the affected tooth to learn why it is discolored and how bad it is. If Dr. Pullen and Dr. Abrishami determine that internal bleaching is the right choice for you, the process can begin.

First, you will likely receive an anesthetic to prevent discomfort or tenderness. A small hole is made in the back of the discolored tooth to reach the inner chamber. Then, the dentist carefully removes any remaining pulp or debris from the tooth canal. Next, a bleaching agent, usually a peroxide-based solution, is put inside the tooth. The tooth is temporarily sealed, allowing the bleaching agent to work and gradually lighten the color. Once the tooth matches the color of your natural teeth, Dr. Pullen or Dr. Abrishami will remove the whitening agent, clean the tooth well, and seal the opening.
